Have you ever wondered how Drupal does what it does? Good, me too. In this series of posts, I'm going to explain what Drupal is doing behind the scenes to perform its magic.

In Part 1, we'll keep it fairly high level and walk through the path a request takes as it moves through Drupal. In later parts, we'll take deeper dives into individual pieces of this process.

Step 0: Some background information

For this example, let's pretend that George, a user of your site, wants to visit your About Us page, which lives at http://oursite/about-us.

How to install Composer on Debian

To make Composer (globally) available on Debian:

$ cd /usr/src
$ sudo apt-get install curl php5-cli
$ curl -sS | sudo php
$ sudo mv composer.phar /usr/bin/composer

Verify installation:

$ composer --version
Composer version 4ecdbf89c4a3d1e5dfe73c57e3202a5e2a18c87e 2014-07-28 20:12:27

How to split the tar.gz archive into volumes and how it then join

To create an archive divided into volumes in the console you want to run a normal backup with the transfer of the result in output

tar -czvf - name_directory | split -b 1999m - name_file.tar.gz

As a result, we obtain the files are split into parts
To merge the file and extract it

cat name_file* | tar -xzf -
